Upcoming Release of Ranma 1/2 Reboot, Streaming Home Announced

The reboot of Ranma 1/2 has been announced, with the release date and streaming service now revealed, meaning we will soon be able to watch the first episode.

For a span of nine years, Ranma 1/2 was published as a manga and offered a unique take on MMA by featuring a main character who is dedicated to improving their fighting skills and has the added ability to change genders depending on the temperature. The creator of this story is Rumiko Takahashi, and its debut in 1989 led to the creation of one of the most beloved anime series.

Three decades later, MAPPA, a well-known production house responsible for the popular Shonen anime Jujutsu Kaisen, has created a new version for screens.

The latest season of Ranma 1/2 will premiere on Saturday, October 5, 2024, and will be available to stream on Netflix. New episodes will be released weekly, diverging from Netflix’s usual approach of releasing entire seasons at once for binge-watching.

Despite being a new and updated anime show, MAPPA has kept certain aspects of the original, particularly in terms of the voice actors.

Kappei Yamaguchi and Megumi Hayashibara are returning as the male and female Ranma, respectively, alongside several other cast members who are also reprising their roles.

The teasers released thus far have effectively showcased a delightful and lively production that perfectly captures the playful atmosphere of the entire property. The 1989 adaptation was a standout during its time, and this new adaptation has the potential to be a standout of the year as well.

Netflix remains committed to staying at the forefront of the industry by investing in major productions from renowned studios. One highly anticipated exclusive that will be available on the platform is Terminator Zero, scheduled to premiere on August 29, 2024.

If you’re interested in giving the ’80s show a try before diving into this, it’s available on Peacock in the US. Be sure to check out our upcoming anime guide for other highly anticipated releases.
