The upcoming Vessel of Hatred expansion for Diablo 4 will introduce the highly anticipated Spiritborn character class, causing excitement and speculation among fans.
Despite not being released until October, the Spiritborn class has prompted speculation among players about their moveset, fighting style, and potential similarities to the Witch Doctor class since its reveal on July 18.
Similar to the Witch Doctor, the Spiritborn also originates from the jungles of Kurast. However, since the Necromancer and Druid already fulfill the summoner role, the Spiritborn is expected to bring a completely fresh perspective to the table.
Experienced Diablo players believe that the Spiritborn class will likely draw cultural inspiration from the Witch Doctor, but its gameplay may resemble that of the Monk class in both Diablo 3 and Diablo Immortal.
The Spiritborn class will be a mixture of the Witch Doctor and Monk.
In a discussion on a Diablo 4 subreddit, a fan put forth their theory that the class could possibly be a combination of a monk and a witch doctor, stating: “I have a feeling it might be a mix of a monk and a witch doctor. It would have fast-paced melee attacks and also have access to fun and whimsical animal spells.”Another person chimed in, agreeing that the class could potentially have a jungle or nature-inspired monk vibe.
On the other hand, a poster proposed that the Spiritborn could potentially be a fusion of the Monk and Amazon class from Diablo 2.
They predicted that there will likely be a central ability similar to D3 Monk’s seven-sided strike, possibly called Jaguar strikes. They also anticipated another primary skill inspired by D2 Javazon’s spectral spear throw. Lastly, they speculated that there may be an ultimate move resembling the beastmaster from Warcraft III, summoning spectral beasts from the jungle.
One individual proposed that the Spiritborn could share similarities with the traditional Witch Doctor and potentially possess summoning abilities similar to those of the Tempest class in Diablo Immortal, where summons are abundant but short-lived.
The comment they left suggested that the general concept would involve summoning temporary minions with specific abilities. For example, one could summon a bear spirit to smash the ground and stun enemies, a bat spirit to whisk the character away, or a human spirit to unleash a berserker rage.
Ultimately, a player expressed a desire for the class to have its own unique identity. However, they also acknowledged that it can be challenging for new classes in Diablo to not draw inspiration from existing ones. As they stated, “While the developers claim it’s completely original, it’s almost inevitable to not incorporate elements from other classes.”
Despite being from the same region of Kurast, the Witch Doctor and the Spiritborn are likely to have some overlap in their abilities. Additionally, the absence of the Monk class in Diablo 4 has not gone unnoticed.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that the Tempest and Blood Knight in Diablo Immortal were completely original classes, bearing only slight similarities to previously existing ones. Thus, it is possible that the Spiritborn may also pleasantly surprise players and carve out its own unique identity.
