Call of Duty players have been requesting UI modifications since the introduction of the horizontal panel style in MW2 2022. This style has been carried over to MW3, but with the upcoming release of Black Ops 6, it is finally time for a revamp.
The developers have officially announced that they will be taking action based on the feedback they received. They outlined significant modifications to the UI and download sizes of CoD HQ.
Latest Updates From CoD HQ
Activision has recently announced a series of updates for CoD HQ that will be implemented gradually, beginning with MW3 Season 5 Reloaded and continuing until the launch of Black Ops 6. These changes are set to take place in the near future.
- New streamlined UI
- Direct access to games
- More control over your downloads, including Call of Duty: Warzone content
- Expanded streaming technology to reduce file sizes
Call of Duty User Interface Overhaul
In mid-October, a revamped UI will be implemented for Call of Duty. The updated design will highlight the latest title and Warzone on its landing page, while also providing a convenient selection of top content for players to access without having to scroll.
Additionally, beginning with the release of Black Ops 6, each game will feature its own unique user interface aimed at seamlessly guiding players to their preferred modes and content. During the beta, players will have the opportunity to preview the UI for BO6.
Black Ops 6 will have its own UI separate from other CoD titles.
Download size reduction & game file organization
The initial major update for CoD HQ is scheduled for August 21, coinciding with the release of MW3 Season 5 Reloaded. This update will restructure game files and isolate Warzone from the yearly releases, providing players with the option to download the battle royale separately and decide which game files to have on their device.
In an effort to decrease download sizes, the utilization of texture streaming will continue to expand. Although the update will be sizeable, the blog states that it will not take up additional storage space. This is due to the incorporation of new technology and reorganization of game files to prepare for the new user interface.
The developers further assure that with the implementation of this update, upcoming CoD downloads will have reduced file sizes and existing files will occupy less memory on your device. They have also announced that Black Ops 6 will have a smaller download size compared to the launch of MW3, all thanks to these optimizations.
During the period of August 21 until the end of MW3 Season 5, players who complete the download(s) will receive a diverse range of rewards as gifts. These will include:
- 10x 1-Hour Double Player XP Tokens (10 Hours Total)
- 10x 1-Hour Double Weapon XP Tokens (10 Hours Total)
- 10x Battle Pass Token Tier Skips
Ultimately, the goal of these updates is to enhance the player experience in the Call of Duty HQ app for the launch of Black Ops 6. We will have the opportunity to learn more about the changes to the user interface during Call of Duty Next, which will also provide further information on multiplayer, Zombies, and the integration of Warzone.
