Update on Changes to Season of Discovery Nightmare Incursions in Final Phase, According to WoW Dev

Season of Discovery has undoubtedly been one of the most unforgettable experiences in the world of Warcraft, and the game is preparing to enter its final phase. In light of this, a senior developer has officially announced that there will be changes to Nightmare Incursions.

As part of the collaboration with the community via the PTR for Season of Discovery, Senior Game Producer Josh Greenfield has been providing answers to players’ inquiries on Twitter/X. His responses have offered insights into the development team’s plans for the fourth phase of Season of Discovery, particularly regarding Nightmare Incursions.

The initial post clarified that there will not be any “new”invasions during the final stage.

Furthermore, Greenfield verified that significant modifications will be made to current Incursions. More specifically, the current “loops”in Incursions will be eliminated, although he did not specify what the new structure will entail.

The latest addition to Season of Discovery is the Nightmare Incursions world event. While the first two phases were primarily focused on PvP, Incursions have shifted the focus to completing quests around portals in Azeroth. Players will then face off against Emerald Dragon World Bosses.

Regrettably, the response to Nightmare Incursions has been overwhelmingly negative. This event is significantly less well-received compared to both the Battle for Ashenvale and Blood Moon events. The majority of the criticism revolves around what is perceived as monotonous gameplay and unnecessary grinding.

Despite the event not being instanced, it became evident that it was challenging to balance within it. There have been minimal alterations, and the overall sentiment towards Incursions remains unchanged.

With the introduction of the final phase of the game, Season of Discovery, players will now have a plethora of new activities to engage in. The focus will shift towards traditional 40-man raids, with the added feature of a revamped Molten Core that combines elements of both a raid and a dungeon.
