Update on Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 and CD Projekt’s anime plans

Despite the unfortunate news that Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 is not currently in the works, CD Projekt has not ruled out the possibility of future animation projects.

In 2022, Netflix released Cyberpunk Edgerunners, which surprised many as one of the top anime of the year. This was due to the stunning depiction of the cyberpunk world and well-developed characters.

Despite only consisting of 10 episodes, the anime show was anything but short and sweet, leaving viewers yearning for more.

Regrettably, the Trigger-made project was originally intended for only one season, and the resulting story was the extent of the planned content for this particular aspect of Mike Pondsmith’s world. However, CD Projekt, the developer behind Cyberpunk 2077, has announced that there may be further spin-offs in the works.

During an earnings call, CEO of CD Projekt, Michał Nowakowski, stated that they have plans to further incorporate animation into Cyberpunk. He assured that there will be more to come, but was unable to provide further details at this time.

When specifically asked about the possibility of a new season for Edgerunners, he responded by saying that the company’s focus is on expanding their presence in the realm of popular culture.

His response indirectly addressed the possibility of more Edgerunners, avoiding a direct confirmation that Season 2 will not happen, but implying that it will not be the case.

It is comforting to know that there are plans to potentially build upon the success of the TV show. While quality video game adaptations are not yet widespread, as seen with the Borderlands movie, Edgerunners was a rare exception where the spin-off actually outperformed the original game.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for Nowakowski’s suggestion. CD Projekt currently has several releases in the works, many of which have cryptic titles. These include Project Orion, set in the Cyberpunk universe, Project Sirius, in The Witcher franchise, and even a new original IP.

In the meantime, we will continue to provide updates on the releases of Solo Leveling Season 2, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, and Dragon Ball Daima, once details become available. Our guides will ensure that you stay informed on all of these upcoming releases.
