Updated Destiny 2 Pulse Rifle Revives Gambit Gameplay Appeal

In a thrilling comeback since Season 4, Bygones made its return in the episode titled Revenant, bringing a refreshed pool of perks for the Destiny 2 Pulse Rifle and introducing some highly competitive rolls.

This season, Bygones steps into the spotlight as the featured weapon in Gambit. As a Kinetic Pulse Rifle that was once adored by players, its former popularity was shadowed by newer options. However, the revamped version enhances its viability, particularly in PvP scenarios.

Bygones now boasts an impressive array of potent perks suited for the Crucible, including Zen Moment, Keep Away, Perpetual Motion, Headseeker, Kill Clip, and Eye of the Storm. This makes it an exceptional choice for PvP engagements, ranging from casual 6v6 matches to the intense Trials of Osiris.

To optimize your experience and streamline your farming efforts, here’s the optimal Bygones loadout you should aim for in PvP:

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Brake
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Zen Moment
  • Perk 2: Headseeker
  • Masterwork: Range

The synergy of these perks is highly effective; Zen Moment helps to diminish flinch and enhances stability, making Bygones highly accurate with every shot you land. For those moments when you do miss your precision shots, Headseeker compensates by increasing precision damage and aim assist shortly after connecting a body shot.

This advantageous combination enables Bygones to eliminate enemy Guardians in just two bursts, frequently achieving a time to kill (TTK) of merely 600 ms, which ranks among the quickest in PvP.

This impressive TTK can also be achieved with High Ground, a slightly overlooked perk that increases damage by 15% when you’re positioned above an enemy player. Although somewhat situational, it’s particularly effective on maps like Widow’s Court and JAV-4, where activating High Ground is straightforward and can yield significant damage boosts.

Unfortunately, acquiring this god roll will require either considerable luck or effort, as Bygones offers 24 different perks split across both columns and is exclusive to Gambit. In essence, you’ll need to commit to extensive Gambit gameplay to secure your preferred roll.

You can expedite this process by interacting with The Drifter to focus on the reprised Pulse Rifle for one Gambit Engram each. However, it’s advisable to reset the ritual activity vendor’s rank at least once beforehand, as doing so will allow you to receive rolls featuring multiple perks in the third column, significantly raising your chances of obtaining a god roll.
