Uzumaki anime confirms September 2024 release date and more in new PV

On Friday, July 26, 2024, the official X (formerly known as Twitter) accounts for Adult Swim and the Uzumaki anime series released a new trailer, confirming the show’s September 2024 release date. They also announced that the anime will be available for streaming the day after its airing on Adult Swim, on HBO’s Max streaming service.

The official release date for the Uzumaki anime was recently confirmed, only a few weeks after Junji Ito, the author and illustrator of the original manga, mentioned in an interview that it is set to be released in 2024. Ito expressed his satisfaction with the anime, stating that it has met his expectations and has earned his seal of approval. This is particularly reassuring since the delays in the production of the anime were mostly due to adaptation and production challenges.

Release Date for Uzumaki Anime Announced: September 28, 2024

According to the official Adult Swim and series X accounts, the Uzumaki anime will debut on Adult Swim on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Although the release time has not been announced at the time of writing, it is expected that this information will be revealed in the upcoming weeks and months leading up to the premiere.

The recently released promotional video highlights the introduction of various characters and their encounters with the spiral, in line with the original source material. The trailer effectively captures the unsettling tone of the series, with the decision to use black and white animation proving to be a successful choice based on the trailer alone.

Around the same time as the aforementioned Junji Ito interview, the official X account for the anime series announced the Japanese and English voice cast. Uki Satake will star as Kirie Goshimo, while Shin-ichiro MMiki will voice Shuichi Saito and Mariya Ise will voice Azami Kurotani. Toshio Furukawa will play Kirie’s father, Mika Dui will play Shuichi’s mother, and Takashi Matsuyama will play Shuichi’s father. Katsutoshi Matsuzaki will voice Katayama.

In the English adaptation, Abby Trott will lend her voice to the character of Kirie, while Robbie Daymond will play the role of Shuichi and Cristina Vee will portray Azami. The character of Kirie’s father will be voiced by Doug Stone, Shuichi’s mother will be portrayed by Mona Marshall, and Shuichi’s father will be played by Aaron LaPlante. Additionally, Max Mittleman will be the voice actor for the character of Katayama in the English dub.

The Uzumaki anime is based on Ito’s original manga series with the same title, which was initially published in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits magazine from January 1998 to August 1999. It was announced in 2019 but faced several delays due to various reasons such as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the production team’s request for more time to enhance the quality of the anime.
