The fourth episode commenced with a team of reporters from Toyo TV arriving at the island hosting Kurouzu village. Their journey soon took a perilous turn as they were besieged by a fierce hurricane that wrecked their vehicle. Out of the team, Chie emerged as the sole survivor. Upon exiting the wreckage, she was taken aback to find her breath visible in the strangely humid air.

Fortunately, Kirie and Mitsuo, Chie’s saviors, guided her away from danger. Along their path, they encountered a group of children who produced whirlwinds for amusement, known as the Butterfly Gang. Kirie urgently warned Chie to steer clear of them.

The trio soon directed Chie toward the Dragonfly Pond, a chilling site born of the violent storms that had ravaged the village. This pond was pivotal, as even the slightest disturbance could conjure a dangerous whirlwind. Upon reaching a shelter, however, they were rebuffed due to overcrowding.

Eventually, Kirie and Shuichi left the shelter to seek alternate refuge. Along their travels, they witnessed adults grilling human-like snail creatures, recalling a grim fate similar to that endured by Takayama. Kirie expressed her revulsion, recognizing that these creatures were once human.

When the adults invited Kirie and her group to join their feast, they were met with rejection. The self-styled Dragonfly Gang persisted, but Kirie rebuffed their advances. In a turn of fate, the Dragonfly Gang faced the wrath of the Dragonfly Pond as they attempted to confront Kirie’s group and were ultimately absorbed.

They quickly realized with horror that spirals had begun to appear on their backs, triggering panic. In a frenzied attempt to escape the spiral curse, they raced back to the shelter.

Upon their arrival, however, they were once again turned away. Tensions flared into chaos as villagers fought amongst themselves. A portion of the shelter collapsed, providing the villagers a chance to enter—only to find their fellow villagers had fallen prey to the curse, their bodies grotesquely intertwined.

With no safe haven, Kirie, Mitsuo, and the remaining villagers set off to find a new place to hide. Unfortunately, despair loomed as Mitsuo’s back began to manifest a spiral. Kirie grew increasingly determined to find a way out of the village to save her brother. Together, they searched for a route to the next village.

Along the way, they encountered the same villagers suffering even more grotesque fates. One was devoured by the curse, prompting an unsettling display as the remaining villagers resorted to cannibalism, stripped of all decency.

Kirie’s group, desperate to save Mitsuo from sharing a similar fate, pressed on. As they entered the woods, they crossed paths with the villagers again, who were now intent on consuming Mitsuo, who was close to transforming completely into a snail.

Shuichi heroically opted to carry Mitsuo, but mid-journey, Mitsuo’s transformation became irreversible. Still, they pressed toward the island’s bay, where Kirie was forced to urge Mitsuo to distance himself in a bid for survival.

Kirie and Shuichi forged ahead toward the source of the spiral, descending into its depths. Unfortunately, they tumbled into a larger expanse filled with massive spiral ruins. He urged Kirie to flee, believing there was a chance for her survival.

In an act of love, Kirie refused to abandon Shuichi, and together they succumbed to the curse as the spiral ruins sealed them inside, dooming Kurouzu village and entering a slumber lasting a hundred years.
