Popular streamer Valkyrae has expressed her disagreement with fans who believe she resembles Pokimane, suggesting that these comparisons are mainly due to their shared profession in the streaming industry.
Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter has established herself as one of the leading female streamers online. However, this prominence often places her in the spotlight for comparisons with another significant figure in gaming, Pokimane.
During a YouTube stream on October 17, Valkyrae addressed these remarks after a user on her subreddit commented, “Why does she look like Pokimane?”
“Guys, I’m Asian!” she responded passionately. “I’m a German-Filipino with wavy hair, while Poki has curly locks. This is my natural hair, just so you know! I genuinely don’t believe we have similar looks. Though I appreciate the compliment since she’s gorgeous, it still surprises me.”
“I honestly think this is all about us being in the same streaming sphere. Poki isn’t even Asian; she’s Moroccan. I really don’t see the resemblance. If I were involved in a different industry or she was, this kind of comparison likely wouldn’t happen. It seems like people just assume we look alike simply because we’re both streamers,” she stated.
While Valkyrae does take issue with the likeness comments, she still views them as flattering. Nonetheless, fans have their perspectives, with one commenting on YouTube, “Twins… I think Rae is gaslighting.”
Another viewer noted, “There are definitely some ‘vague similarities’ between them. In certain side-by-side pictures, if you squint, you might see it.”
This isn’t the first occasion where Valkyrae has found herself drawn into comparisons with other female streamers; back in August, she responded to a comment about thinking she’s Jodi, simply because of her recently dyed purple hair.
“It’s strange that dyeing my hair leads to comparisons with other women. I mean, a lot of women have hair! What am I supposed to do?” she remarked.
Valkyrae has shown that she’s unafraid to respond to criticism, recently clapping back at an online critic who referred to her as “expired” for dressing in a “schoolgirl” outfit at the age of 32.
