Riot Games is taking significant measures to combat the growing issue of hackers in Valorant, as confirmed by Phillip Koskinas, the head of their anti-cheat program. This announcement comes in light of a recent surge in cheating activity during the holiday season.
Upon its launch, Valorant’s anti-cheat mechanism, Vanguard, was touted as a formidable barrier against unauthorized gameplay. Riot has even incentivized the community by offering bounties for identifying vulnerabilities within this system. However, despite these robust efforts, the presence of cheaters has continued to persist, leading to millions of bans over the past few years. Unfortunately, the holiday period saw an alarming increase in these incidents.
Cheating Concerns: A Rise in Valorant Hackers
As 2025 begins, Koskinas revealed that nearly 100,000 cheaters have already been banned this year. He acknowledged the issue, stating, “We saw a lot of VALORANT cheaters accumulate over the holiday, but we’re back and happy to be handing out their gifts.” This message was shared via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
In response to the ongoing challenge, Koskinas noted a new approach: “Cheaters don’t take breaks, so thanks for letting us get a small respite—we can hit so much harder now. Soon, future bans will include ranked rollbacks.” This adjustment aims to enhance the integrity of the game further.

When questioned about the mechanics of these ranked rollbacks, particularly how they would affect players who might have benefited from a cheater on their team, Koskinas provided clarity. He stated, “You’ll keep yours, and enemies will get theirs back. It’s slightly inflationary, but we’ve run the numbies and we’ll be okay.” This indicates that while some players may see a temporary setback, the overall fairness of the ranking system will remain intact.

Koskinas highlighted the diverse nature of hackers, including a significant number of repeat offenders, which poses a challenge for the gameplay community.
