Nobody enjoys participating in a Ranked Valorant match only to encounter a cheater and lose RR because of it. Thankfully, Riot Games is developing a solution to tackle this pressing issue.
In the developer update video released on September 20, Riot detailed numerous upcoming changes set for Valorant in the latter part of 2024. Players can expect several adjustments to the Sunset map alongside a nerf to the game’s best Sentinel character.
In addition to these significant updates, Riot introduced an innovative system called Ranked Rollbacks. This new feature will allow players to receive a refund on their RR if they lose a match against a cheater who was subsequently banned after the game.
However, this refund mechanism will not apply if a cheater is banned during the match; rather, it ensures that players will regain their lost RR if the cheater is caught post-match.
The community reaction has been overwhelmingly supportive, as encountering cheaters disrupting matches has become a common frustration among players.
One player noted, “[T]he adrenaline rush I’m going to experience seeing my RR return is going to be exhilarating,” expressing excitement about the new system.
Other community members have raised questions about whether this Ranked Rollback feature will be limited strictly to cheaters, or if Riot considers applying similar mechanics for players displaying toxic behavior or those who intentionally throw games.
For now, Riot is primarily focused on addressing the issue of cheaters affecting others’ gameplay, so the initial rollout of this system will specifically target cheaters identified after a loss.
Moreover, Riot has indicated that they are not only focused on cheaters but are also committed to revising their policies to enforce stronger, quicker penalties for serious offenses.
These initiatives may include implementing hardware bans for repeat offenders, making it impossible for cheaters and toxic players to play Valorant on their console or PC, regardless of the account they use.
