Valorant Players Confused as Devs Make Massive Change to How New Patches Work

As of June 25, 2024, Valorant patch days will no longer coincide with the release of in-game content such as new agents, maps, Battle Passes, or skins. These updates will now be made separately from gameplay adjustments.

Valorant’s upcoming ninth Episode, set to launch on June 25, will bring with it the usual variety of content, including gameplay updates and adjustments. However, moving forward, patches will no longer incorporate cosmetics, rank resets, or any additional content apart from balance tweaks. Fans will have to exercise patience to experience the full extent of the updates.

The official announcement, which includes details about Agent changes, Rank Refreshes, and other updates, was made on June 20, a mere five days prior to the release of Episode 9.

According to Valorant on X, beginning with Patch 9.00, players can expect new content to be accessible in-game the day after the patch is released. The store updates will follow the day after that. For instance, if your region typically receives patch releases on Tuesdays, the new content will be available in-game on Wednesday and the store will be updated on Thursday.

Before this update, Valorant had given specific release dates for upcoming content to prevent any confusion surrounding the changes. This means that all of the content mentioned will be introduced to the game on their respective release dates, rather than all being released on the same day as the patch.

Additional content will be released after the patch is released.

  • Agents
  • Maps
  • Acts
  • Rank refreshes
  • Battle Passes
  • Skins (~2 days after patch release)

Content that stays active on the day of patch release:

  • Balance changes to existing Agents
  • Main menu background video
  • Login screen art

Following the announcement, players commented their confusion under the post regarding Valorant’s decision to release the content over several days instead of all at once as they had done previously.

“I believe that Riot’s latest update is extremely confusing and unfriendly, possibly the worst I’ve come across.”

“So, are you saying that the patch will be released on Wednesday after all? I’m feeling quite confused.”

Despite the comments regarding the change, Valorant has not provided a response or explanation for the change that was implemented.

The 9.00 patch for Valorant is scheduled to launch on June 25, with new content such as skins and Battle Pass rewards becoming available the next day on June 26.
