The introduction of a brand-new feature will now allow Steam reviews to specify whether the reviewer played on the Steam Deck.
Choosing which games to play on the Steam Deck can be challenging. Although there is a vast selection of games available on Steam, not all of them are suitable for the handheld device. Some may even run poorly when played on the go.
To address this issue, Valve has implemented a new feature that makes it simpler to decide which game to play on the Deck. This feature will indicate whether a review for a game was primarily based on gameplay on the Steam Deck.
On August 22, OnDeck informed users that they have recently rolled out a brand-new feature. As stated on the official Steam Deck social media page, eligible reviews will now display a small icon of the handheld device.
Good morning! Keep an eye out for the Deck icon to see how these players reviewed the game, and let us know what you think! pic.twitter.com/RYVa9wVGYi

Hopefully, this will greatly increase awareness of which games perform well on the Valve handheld. As previously, there was only hope that a reviewer would mention the handheld’s performance in their reviews.
Despite the fact that the Steam Deck owners had access to Valve’s verification service, they still had to rely on it. While it may provide some insight into the performance of games on the handheld, its reliability is not guaranteed.
In July 2023, Remnant 2 was released on Steam with a fully verified status. However, it faced heavy criticism for its performance not meeting Valve’s official commendation. Over time, these issues have been improved upon, and a new feature has been added to provide additional support.
The recent introduction of the “customer review”feature coincides with Valve’s release of the latest friends list update, only a month prior. This update also included the Deck icons, which are now visible on your friends list whenever you’re using the handheld.
Since the new customer review feature was only recently released yesterday, it will probably be some time before Steam Deck icons start appearing in reviews across Steam.
