Valve Steam Deck Update: Now You Can Show Off to Your Friends List!

Steam’s most recent beta channel update will allow friends to be notified when you are using the Steam Deck.

Valve continues to add new features to the Steam Deck at a steady pace. In the latest beta channel update, they finally introduced game capturing to the two-year-old handheld.

The most recent update for the beta channel has been released. Along with the usual software fixes, Valve has also implemented the long-awaited feature of allowing friends to see when you are using the Steam Deck.

As part of the most recent beta client update, Steam has added Steam Deck icons. These icons, in the shape of the Steam Deck, will now appear next to your name on your friends list if you are playing the top Steam Deck games. This update was rolled out on July 30.

Before, when you held your Deck in your hand, a gamepad icon would appear. But with this latest update, it is now more obvious that you are using the Steam Deck instead of a controller with a high-end gaming PC.

The newly added icon can also be seen on your account profile, which can be accessed by clicking your profile icon on the header of your Steam Deck screen.

How to Update to the Latest Beta Channel on Steam Deck

If you can’t wait to inform all of your friends that you now own a Steam Deck, you can download the latest update. To access it, you must be in either the preview or beta channels.

If you have already enrolled for beta participation, you can access the July 30 update by clicking on the ‘Steam’ button, and then selecting Settings > System > Updates and finally clicking ‘Apply.’

After restarting your Steam Deck, you will be able to access the Steam Deck icon feature. Additionally, this update will replace the VR icon and resolve any issues with tooltips causing awkward word wraps.

Moreover, the game recording beta, which was introduced last month, has received several enhancements in this fresh update. These include a resolution for cases where video data was not captured and issues with cropped image capture, as well as the incorporation of a “Send to Phone”share feature.
