VCT Pros Name Sentinels as Most Overrated Team at Valorant Champions 2024

Riot Games conducted a global survey with more than 100 VCT professionals to gather their opinions on a range of awards and superlatives. Among the categories was “most overrated at Valorant Champions,”and Sentinels emerged as the recipient of this distinction.

Despite facing some challenges throughout the VCT season, the Sentinels have had a rollercoaster year. They began 2024 on a high note, making small changes to their lineup by adding Amine ‘johnqt’ Ouarid and Jordan ‘Zellsis’ Montemurro during the 2023-24 off-season.

The squad’s dominance at the VCT Americas Kickoff tournament earned them a spot in Masters Madrid. Sentinels’ impressive performance resulted in a Masters trophy being brought back to North America.

Sentinels’ performance declined following that tournament, causing them to miss out on Masters Shanghai. They consequently had to depend on the failure of other teams in the Stage 2 playoffs in order to secure a spot in Valorant Champions 2023 through circuit points.

During an anonymous survey, fellow Valorant professionals acknowledged Sentinels’ lackluster performance leading up to the World Championship and took that into consideration when evaluating them.

Some supporters of the renowned Valorant team, however, viewed the label as unfair and questioned whether other professional players harbored jealousy towards Sentinels’ success in the esport industry.

One social media user asked for honesty regarding which things were considered the most overrated or most hated.

“My team does not deserve this disrespect, it’s ridiculous. And let’s not forget, who won Madrid? It seems like you only use them for views and money,”another fan pointed out.

At the time of writing, Zellsis was the sole Sentinels player who had responded to the poll asking who voted his team as “most overrated.”

The North American team has been placed in Group B for the Valorant Champions 2024 tournament and they are entering their second match after losing to Gen.G in their initial matchup.

On August 8, Sentinels will have the opportunity to dispel the overrated accusations as they face off against China’s FunPlus Phoenix in the lower bracket, with their tournament lives on the line.
