Vegeta’s Long-Awaited Super Saiyan Transformation Revealed in Dragon Ball Daima

The latest Dragon Ball anime series, Dragon Ball Daima, is finally set to give Vegeta a long-awaited Super Saiyan transformation that fans have desired to be canon for years.

Dragon Ball Daima is scheduled to premiere on October 11, featuring Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and the rest of the Z-fighters transformed into children. This transformation prompts the crew to embark on a quest to return to their adult forms.

Details about the series continue to emerge, including its timeline placement and new characters. Notably, Daima will also introduce something that Dragon Ball enthusiasts have been longing for nearly 30 years.

According to Dragon Ball insider Geekdom101, in Dragon Ball Daima, Vegeta will finally unlock Super Saiyan 3, although the form will appear differently than it does for Goku.

While SSJ3 Vegeta has appeared in non-canon video games and other media, he has never achieved this form in anime or manga—until now. In Daima, kid Vegeta will have this form, but his appearance will differ. He will lack eyebrows and have longer hair, which won’t flow behind him like it does for Goku and Gotenks. Instead, his hairstyle will resemble Gohan’s Beast transformation seen in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Geekdom suggests that this design might be an Easter Egg from Toriyama’s original concept art for SSJ3, which featured hair spiked upwards rather than flowing down. Although this design was ultimately rejected, it seems to make a comeback in Daima.

Now, with Daima set just after the Buu arc in DBZ, one might wonder why Vegeta never utilized this form in Dragon Ball Super. The answer lies in the flaws of SSJ3.

Super Saiyan 3 consumes a significant amount of energy. While it is indeed powerful, it drains stamina quickly, leading Vegeta to favor SSJ2 and perfecting his base form instead.

Moreover, in Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta critiques SSJ3, implying that whatever he experiences in Daima causes him to dislike the form—likely due to discovering its draining effect during battles.

In Super, Vegeta also accesses the far stronger Super Saiyan God and SSJGSSJ (Blue) forms, giving him little incentive to transform into SSJ3.

It’s unclear when in Daima Vegeta will obtain SSJ3, but once he does, fans are sure to react enthusiastically, as new transformations are typically among the most exciting aspects of any Dragon Ball series.
