Venom 3 marks the conclusion of this chapter within the Sony Spider-Man Universe, but the box office performance of The Last Dance indicates that this series may have reached its expiration date much earlier.
As Eddie Brock and Venom prepare to part ways, Venom: The Last Dance introduces significant characters like Knull, the Xenophage, and Rex Strickland, which opens the door for potential future installments.
Despite this, the box office figures for The Last Dance highlight that all strategies don’t necessarily yield success.
Box Office Earnings for Venom 3
In terms of domestic earnings, Venom 3 is projected to rake in $52 million during its opening weekend across 4,131 theaters.
This is a drop from initial expectations of $65 million, resulting in a $13 million shortfall. The film made only $22 million on its first day, which is a record low for the trilogy.
Some analysts attribute the less-than-stellar box office performance to the concurrent World Series games featuring the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, which began on the same day Venom 3 premiered.
Additionally, international sales are still in the mix. The total overseas revenue is forecasted to reach around $180 million. To date, Venom 3 has accrued $50.8 million internationally by Friday.
The movie was produced with a budget of $120 million.
Comparing The Last Dance with Other Installments
The Last Dance currently stands as the lowest-grossing film in the Venom trilogy at the domestic box office, following the original Venom, which premiered at $80.2 million, and Let There Be Carnage, which achieved $90 million on opening weekend.
This means that The Last Dance’s initial weekend earnings are nearly half of what Let There Be Carnage earned back in 2021, solidifying its status as the least profitable Venom film to date.
Nonetheless, when set against other superhero films released in 2024, Venom 3 ranks second in earnings. While Deadpool & Wolverine leads significantly, Venom: The Last Dance surpasses other competitors such as Madame Web ($17.6m), The Crow ($4.6m), and Joker: Folie à Deux ($40m).
