Venom 3: Does Venom Die? Understanding The Last Dance Title

Venom 3 marks the final chapter in this series of symbiote films, leaving fans speculating whether Venom meets his end in the climactic episode titled The Last Dance. (Caution: significant spoilers ahead!)

For a long time, the idea of a standalone Venom film seemed like an unattainable dream, tossed around in development limbo. However, in 2018, moviegoers were treated not just to one Venom film but the beginning of a trilogy focused on the enigmatic alien entity.

Now, with The Last Dance bringing this saga to a close, it seems we are bid farewell to Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Eddie Brock and his complicated bond with Venom. The stakes have never been higher, but does this imply a tragic end for our beloved symbiote?

Is Venom’s fate sealed in The Last Dance?

Indeed, Venom sacrifices himself in a dramatic moment by immersing himself in acid to protect Eddie and the planet from Knull and his army of Xenophages.

Knull has been relentlessly pursuing Venom and Eddie throughout the film, deploying his Xenophage minions to Earth in a bid to seize the Codex Key. Curious about the Codex Key? It’s a product of the powerful biological bond forged when Venom resurrected Eddie, creating a unique connection.

The Xenophage can identify this key when Venom reverts to his true form, and the only way to destroy the connection is for either Eddie or Venom to perish. Early conflicts in the movie delve into their unwillingness to sacrifice themselves.

Yet, during the climactic battle at Area 51, when Eddie finds himself in peril and the Xenophage forces begin to invade through portals, Venom comes to a profound realization. Determined to save Eddie, he resolves to make the ultimate sacrifice, taking the Xenophage down with him.

After bidding farewell to Eddie, Venom emerges from their hiding spot, assuming his fully realized form and absorbing the Xenophage beings into himself. He moves toward the military’s acid vats, utilized for disposing of outdated equipment as Area 51 shuts down.

Venom assists a wounded Strickland in reaching the control panel, where he instructs the release of the acid. He expels Eddie, covering him with a metallic door for protection as the acid cascades down upon him as well as the Xenophage horde.

Although the acid requires a few triggers to begin inflicting damage, Strickland ultimately detonates a grenade to eliminate himself, Venom, and the nearby Xenophages.

What is the significance of the title The Last Dance?

The title ‘The Last Dance’ signifies that this is the concluding chapter for Eddie and Venom, highlighting Tom Hardy’s anticipated final performance as Eddie Brock.

Essentially, it serves as a poignant way of indicating “the end.” The film itself references this title during a scene set in Las Vegas.

While at a casino in Vegas, they encounter Mrs. Chen at the slot machines, who invites them up to her suite. There, she switches on the jukebox, asking Venom for “one last dance.”

With enthusiasm, Venom engages in a dance before the Xenophage abruptly intervenes, soon followed by Strickland and his team.
