Veteran Actress Criticizes Treatment of Kim Soo-hyun: “Why Are Celebrities Treated Worse Than Criminals?”

On March 18, popular YouTuber Kim Bu-seon shared a provocative video on her channel, Kim Bu-seon TV, titled “Celebrities Have Fewer Rights Than Serial Killers!” In her video, she fiercely critiqued societal attitudes toward celebrities, particularly in light of the recent scandal involving Kim Soo-hyun and his alleged relationship with a minor.

Kim Bu-seon opened the discussion by expressing her sorrow over the death of actress Kim Sae-ron. She stated, “Viewing the online reactions to the tragic loss of a young actress filled me with despair. Over 80% of the comments were filled with malice, almost as if people were reveling in her death. It’s a disturbing reflection of our society—how can individuals be so heartless?”

Veteran Actress Kim Bu-seon Questions Harsh Treatment of Kim Soo-hyun

She went on to highlight the unfair treatment that Kim Sae-ron faced even after her death, particularly regarding her past incidents, such as a drunk driving charge.“She lost everything at a young age after experiencing public backlash. Why must she continue to endure criticism even in death? Has any other actress escaped similar scrutiny? She has already paid the price, losing her career—and yet, the condemnation persists, ” Kim Bu-seon emphasized.

Addressing the allegations against Kim Soo-hyun, which suggested he had been in a relationship with Kim Sae-ron since she was just 15, Kim Bu-seon deemed the accusations cowardly.“Is it not permissible for men and women to date? We live in an age that champions freedom of expression, yet the rights of celebrities seem less protected than those of serious criminals, ” she asserted, visibly frustrated.

Kim Bu-seon further exposed what she perceives as a hypocrisy in public judgment.“People shy away from criticizing the spouses of influential individuals while mercilessly targeting vulnerable celebrities like Kim Sae-ron and Wheesung—or even myself. It feels like a witch hunt has begun, specifically targeting Kim Soo-hyun, ” she stated.“Why do people feel compelled to harshly judge celebrities for relatable human errors when, if no one was harmed directly, their reactions seem unjustified?” she questioned.

Concluding her remarks, Kim Bu-seon poignantly highlighted the disparity in treatment, saying, “Why are celebrities like Kim Sae-ron and Wheesung subjected to worse treatment than serial killers? Don’t we contribute to society, paying taxes and casting votes? We are also someone’s cherished child, potentially a parent ourselves, and we deserve respect as fellow human beings. There is absolutely no basis for this contempt.”
