On May 7th, NewJeans came together to celebrate the 20th birthday of their oldest member, Minji. They also held a live broadcast to connect with their fans during the special occasion.
During the livestream, Minji unexpectedly reached for a balloon in an attempt to alter her voice using helium and sound like a Chipmunk. Hanni quickly intervened, urging Minji to refrain from taking the balloon and sternly saying, “No, don’t do it. Kim Min-ji, let go.”
Despite Hanni’s protests, Minji was determined to play with the balloon on her birthday. Hanni, feeling ignored, pouted and exclaimed, “Fine, I won’t care if you get dizzy.”As the two continued to argue over the balloon, the other members couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

The minor altercation between the two friends quickly gained attention on social media and went viral. The popular videos of the incident on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) have already accumulated over 3 million views. Many netizens speculated that Hanni’s concern was due to the potential health effects of inhaling helium from the balloon on Minji. Some comments included, “Hanni was just looking out for her friend’s well-being,””I thought they were really fighting,”and “Hanni’s serious expression showed her genuine care for Minji.”
Despite the ongoing conflict between HYBE and ADOR’s CEO Min Hee-jin, NewJeans will still carry out their planned comeback. The girl group is set to release a double single on May 24th. However, it is unfortunate that the youngest member Hyein will not be able to join in the promotion of this comeback due to her injury.
