During the April 21st episode of tvN’s Sat-Sun drama “Queen of Tears” , Hong Hae-in (played by Kim Ji-won) underwent brain surgery despite the potential risk of losing her memories as a side effect.
Hong Hae-in was convinced that losing her memories would be equivalent to losing her entire life. As a result, she spent the last two episodes struggling with the decision of whether or not to undergo surgery. In order to protect his wife, Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun) went to great lengths to persuade Hong Hae-in, even boasting about his insignificant accomplishments.
Viewers couldn’t help but feel embarrassed as the drama aimed to highlight the value of memories and the intensity of Baek Hyun-woo and Hong Hae-in’s love. As Baek Hyun-woo provoked Hong Hae-in by recalling their honeymoon memories and attracting attention from women at the hotel restaurant, the audience was reminded of the significance of their relationship.
After Hong Hae-in underwent surgery, viewers were particularly frustrated with the situation that followed. As his wife waited for him after the surgery, Baek Hyun-woo was suddenly arrested by Interpol because of Yoon Eun-sung’s (Park Sung-hoon) scheme. When Hong Hae-in woke up from the surgery, the only three letters he could recall were Baek Hyun-woo’s name. To make matters worse, Yoon Eun-sung introduced himself to Hong Hae-in as her long-time lover from their college days. He even went as far as to claim that Baek Hyun-woo was a stalker and wrapped bandages around his hands to mimic Baek Hyun-woo’s injuries.
Following the unexpected turn of events, viewers expressed their frustration by stating “What a frustrating story”, “Who is the writer? I need to speak with them”, “The drama is ending next week, so why are they introducing such nonsensical plot twists?”, “Please stop causing more trouble, Yoon Eun-sung”, and other similar comments.
Despite initial criticism for its predictable clichés, “Queen of Tears” has become a sensation among viewers, largely due to the exceptional performances of its actors. As the drama nears its end with only two episodes left, many questions still linger in the minds of viewers. These include the fate of Baek Hyun-woo and whether he will be able to clear his name, when Yoon Eun-sung and Mo Sul-hee (Lee Mi-sook) will face consequences for their wrongdoings, and the resolution of the love story between Hong Soo-cheol (Kwak Dong-yeon) and Cheon Da-hye (Lee Joo-bin). Additionally, there is speculation about the potential romance between Hong Beom
