Since its introduction in Modern Warfare 2019, Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM) has sparked significant debate among the Call of Duty community. This system assigns players a skill rating, which pairs them with opponents of a similar skill level. Initially, this rating was a mystery, but Activision has since made efforts to clarify how players can access this information.
In April 2024, Activision published an in-depth document outlining the matchmaking mechanics in Call of Duty. This comprehensive overview highlighted that a variety of factors influence matchmaking, with player skill and performance being key components. Despite this insight, players were left in the dark regarding their individual skill ratings.

- Proceed to the privacy and data protection portal.
- Navigate to ‘Access my personal information (subject access request)’ in the blue box.
- Log into your Activision account.

- Hit ‘submit request.’
- Opt for email notifications about your request’s status, and watch your inbox for the information.
YouTuber TheXclusiveAce demonstrated the process, mentioning that it took approximately one day to receive an email with the data. The email contains a downloadable HTML folder, which can be imported into platforms like Google Sheets for a detailed view. However, caution is advised when sharing this information, as it includes personal details like your IP address.
Upon acquiring your skill rating, you can analyze your performance across matches dating back to Vanguard. Your skill rating will adjust based on your game performance. As an example, while TheXclusiveAce’s skill rating is around 400, my result has not yet arrived.
This skill rating can elucidate why you may encounter varying difficulty levels in different lobbies, though you will only be able to view your own rating, not that of your opponents.
As this is a relatively new feature, the significance of different ratings remains unclear. However, as more players request their ratings and share insights, we will start to develop a clearer understanding of what constitutes a “good”skill rating. Even with this information, SBMM continues to be a contentious topic, as many players, including notable figures like an NBA superstar, have expressed frustrations about the matchmaking experience in Black Ops 6.
