Viral Indie Game Transforms Smash Bros into a 40-Player Battle Royale

A new indie game, Byte Breakers, is gaining traction online, and many are eager to experience this 40-player Battle Royale that combines elements reminiscent of Smash Bros.

Fighting games and Battle Royale titles stand as two of the most popular genres in the gaming industry today. Thus, it is no surprise that the indie project Byte Breakers, designed to blend these two styles into a singular experience, has gone viral.

So, what exactly is Byte Breakers? As per the official Steam description released on September 11, 2024, Byte Breakers “is a platform fighting battle royale for 40 players. Navigate a massive city, gear up, and escape the encroaching glitch zone while battling the world to become the last duo standing.”

Odyssey Interactive, the developers known for their work on Omega Strikers, shared a video on X that provides a breakdown of their new title, showcases gameplay, and announces that it will soon be available on PC as a prototype.

The announcement garnered over a million views within just 10 hours, going viral on social media. Many gamers are eager to dive into this engaging 40-player experience as soon as possible.

Popular VTuber Vienna mentioned that they have already “tested” the game and described it as “a blast!” They expressed excitement for the developers and the potential of the game.

Another user on X stated, “Tested this game and it was awesome. Gameplay loop is very reminiscent of Smash Run/City Trial and the movement feels fantastic. High hopes for this.”

Newcomers to Byte Breakers are also buzzing with excitement to experience “a new fighting game with a sick twist!”

However, developers stressed that this title is currently just a prototype, indicating they “might not even make” a full version of the game. If the concept doesn’t perform as desired, it could be just a fleeting idea that fades away.

For those hoping to try out this innovative 40-player fighting Battle Royale, the upcoming playtest is scheduled to commence on September 13, available only on American servers.
