Viral Sensation: World’s Heaviest Cat Passes Away After Weight Loss Camp Escape

The world is in mourning following the passing of Crumbs, famously known as Kroshik, the heaviest cat who gained internet fame for attempting to break free from a weight loss camp. The once-massive feline tipped the scales at an astonishing 38 pounds before his untimely death.

Crumbs’ demise came unexpectedly on October 26, as he faced respiratory issues while at the Russian weight loss facility. Despite this, he was on a positive path towards better health, having shed seven pounds due to a disciplined diet and regular exercise.

As reported by The Mirror, veterinarians overlooked the presence of cancerous tumors obscured by his excess weight. The staff at the Matroskin cat shelter suspect that the tumors located in his lungs and spleen led to a failure of multiple organ systems.

Crumbs’ early life was spent in the basement of a hospital in Russia, where he thrived on a diet of biscuits and soup until he was rescued.

Earlier this year, Crumbs became an internet sensation when he made a valiant attempt to escape the weight loss camp. He almost succeeded, yet ultimately got himself stuck in a shoe rack, thwarting his efforts.

Galiana More, the owner of the shelter where Crumbs spent his final days, shared with local news outlets: “The cat started to suffocate a couple of days ago, lying in an oxygen chamber at the clinic. For the last two hours, we worked hard to help him breathe easier. Sadly, the true cause of his death remains elusive.”

She further explained, “Thanks to the three-kilogram weight loss, ultrasound scans revealed multiple tumors in his spleen, and there’s a chance of metastasis in the lungs. This complicates determining the exact cause of death—his obesity or the tumors.”

At one point, Crumbs’ size was so significant that he could not walk and required a specialized underwater treadmill for exercise. After making substantial progress, he managed to leap onto furniture within the enclosure, which led to his risky escape attempt, resulting in his unfortunate entrapment in a shoe rack belonging to the staff.

Crumbs is not the only feline to capture the hearts of online audiences. In early October, Maxwell the cat rose to stardom on TikTok, captivating viewers with his entertaining videos from a kitten’s perspective.
