According to new reports, Virgin River season 6 is set to see a time jump – but to what era?
So far in the world of Virgin River, things have been moving at a fairly steady and rather slow pace – even if the fictional town sometimes seems a little too drama-filled for most of its residents.
At the end of Part 2 of Season 5, a family dilemma was introduced for Mel, with season-ending cliffhangers suggesting the story would remain grounded in the present.
Yet there are now rumors that Virgin River season 6 could include a notable time jump – but how far will it go? Here’s everything you need to know.
Virgin River season 6: How far will the time jump go?
Although nothing has been officially confirmed, Virgin River fans on Reddit believe that Season 6’s time jump will move the action forward a few months.
This theory was first confirmed by EarlyBirdTimes, with showrunner Patrick Sean Smith strongly hinting that new storylines will be propelled to some point in the future.
However, the article goes on to reveal that the exact extent of the time jump will depend on fan feedback – meaning that a change is planned, but nothing is definitively established regarding its duration.
“It really depends on everyone’s opinion, but I would say around 6 months (purely my personal opinion),” posted a fan in response to a dedicated thread on Reddit asking what could happen in season 6.
“Maybe four or five months?” added another. “Lizzie was maybe 4 weeks pregnant in early September, four months pregnant during the Christmas episodes. So if season 6 were to pick up in mid-April, that would correspond with her and Denny preparing for the birth. As for Charmaine, the twins would no longer be newborns at that point. It would also give Mel and Jack time to pursue an adoption and/or work on the farm off-screen.”
Clues given by the showrunner for season 6 of Virgin River
Speaking to TV Line, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith also said of Pony the Dog: “I always anticipated that there would be a time jump after the holidays when we picked up with season 6., so we were planning to let this dog age naturally as we returned to production.”
However, some Virgin River fans think the more unexpected the time jump, the better.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if they did a big jump, like a year, and then flashback episodes to find out how they got there. I would hate it, but so many shows have done that lately,” one fan said.
It’s likely – based on information given by Smith – that Virgin River Season 6 will also be split into two parts, just like Season 5 was. Which means fans might have to wait a while longer to find out whether they were right or not.
