While season 5 of Virgin River is now available on Netflix, fans of the series are lost in conjectures about how the plot will evolve in the next season. Here’s everything we know so far about season 6.
Adapted from Robyn Carr’s best-selling books, Netflix’s version of Virgin River has proven to be a smash hit, with each new season surpassing the last. Upon the release of season 4, the series even managed to surpass Stranger Things, accumulating 2.6 billion minutes viewed during its first three days on the platform.
The story centers on Mel Monroe, played by Alexandra Breckenridge, a nurse who moves from Los Angeles to the quiet town of Virgin River after a series of personal tragedies. There, she formed a close bond with a local pillar of the community, himself facing his own challenges.
The melodramatic story particularly appeals to fans of romance and drama. And while fans of the series have already devoured season 5, here is what we know about season 6 of Virgin River.

Will there be a season 6 of Virgin River?
Netflix has officially renewed the series for a sixth season. As they stated on Tudum: “There are still two episodes of Virgin River left to air in 2023, but that doesn’t mean we’re not already thinking about what’s going to happen to Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) and the rest of the team after the Christmas-themed episodes that conclude season 5 on November 30.”
VIRGIN RIVER will have a reduced episode count for season 6. It’ll now be 10 episodes instead of 12.https://t.co/XY3cFpU2HI

Another actor to look forward to is John Allen Nelson as Everett, who was revealed to be Mel’s real biological father in season 5 of Virgin River.
Especially since the character could gain in importance with the announcement of a spin-off focusing on his relationship with Mel’s mother, again according to Deadline. It will therefore be a prequel, currently in development.
Virgin River season 6 plot: what will the sequel be about on Netflix?
Since it’s unclear what happens at the end of Season 5, there are no official plot details for Virgin River Season 6, but there are plenty of beginnings plot to follow and more than 20 books to draw inspiration from.
It’s hard to know which direction the story will go given there are still two episodes left in Season 5, but we might get some additional information about Mel’s father and see what happens when Mel and Jack buy the land where Lilly’s farm once stood and perhaps see them begin an adoption journey or choose to live simply together.
Speaking about the miscarriage that occurs midway through Season 5, Breckenridge told Tudum in 2022: “I felt like it was an important story to tell. Not everyone gets their miracle. And so, in talking to a friend who had struggled with fertility, it seemed like we were going to talk about it in an honest way that would be appreciated by women who have been through this. It was very hard for me, though. I cried a lot. It’s a really sad story, but in the end I think Mel comes out of it a better person.”
Furthermore, the first part of season 5 ended with the shocking revelation of Lizzie telling Denny that she might be pregnant. This comes at an awkward time for the couple, so we could very well see how this plays out in season 6, depending on what happens in the final two episodes.
There’s also the budding relationship between Brie and Mike, as well as Cameron and Muriel, but the romance is secondary to all the ongoing drama, from drug cartels to wildfires, the latter of which revealed a body, which will likely be that of Paige’s abusive ex-husband, Wes.
What will this mean for the people of Virgin River, especially Preacher, who helped cover up the evidence? Undoubtedly, we will find out more in Part 2 of Season 5, a plot that could very well continue in Season 6 as well.
