Voice actor calls out Jujutsu Kaisen translator, sparking division among fans

In Chapter 267, translator John Werry once again makes a mistranslation in Jujutsu Kaisen, leading to a call-out from a voice actor. However, the community is split on the validity of the complaint.

Despite nearing its conclusion, the Jujutsu Kaisen manga continues to have errors in its official translation. Fans have previously brought up these issues multiple times, and Chapter 267 includes the plan between Yuta and Gojo, as well as Nobara’s return.

During the flashback, Yuta explains how Rika consumed Yuji’s finger in order to replicate the Shrine. This was a clever tactic to deceive the King of Curses into thinking that Yuta had consumed his last remaining finger. However, in truth, the final finger had been hidden in a mysterious location.

The official translation for “Shrine”is listed as “Malevolent Shrine,”but a well-known JJK fan account has pointed out this mistake. Throughout the manga, there is no evidence of Yuta being able to replicate another person’s domain. He can only duplicate techniques after fulfilling specific requirements.

Despite receiving mixed reactions from fans, Adam McArthur, the English voice actor for Yuji, calls out the translator and shares a popular Yuji gif with the caption “John Wery,”which seems to be a spelling mistake. While some fans applaud his post, others express their disappointment in his perceived lack of professionalism.

One person expresses their disappointment, stating that it was not a respectable action by Adam. They are a fan of both anime and manga and believe it was unfair to criticize the person just doing their job. They hope Adam will reflect on this as it reflects poorly on him.

“A grateful fan expresses their thanks, stating, “Thank you for shedding light on this matter. Many individuals would be hesitant to do so due to their occupation or other cowardly excuses. Your actions are greatly appreciated.”

“According to one more team member, Adam is always reliable and the entire VA team is committed to staying true to the source material and creating an improved product.”

One person attributes the blame to the VA, stating, “This is completely unprofessional behavior from someone who is supposed to be a professional voice actor. Hopefully, there will be consequences for these ignorant actions.”
