Void Century One Piece Theory: Why Every Fan Should Watch the Skypiea Arc

The Skypiea arc is a highly debated topic within the One Piece community, with some fans arguing that it can be skipped while others argue that it holds significant importance in the series. Those who advocate for not skipping the arc firmly believe in its significance as the story progresses, while those who argue for skipping it cite its slow pace as the main reason.

Despite being speculative, a recent theory about the Void Century in One Piece has presented compelling evidence that the Skypiea arc is a must-watch or must-read for anyone following the series. This argument emphasizes the importance of the events in this arc.

One Piece theory on Shandora’s Void Century role proves the importance of the Skypiea arc

Despite the limited information that may be revealed leading up to the event, fans will remain without any definite details until then.

Similarly, the significance of the Skypiea arc to the Void Century is frequently revisited, particularly after the reveal of Gear 5, which was clearly foreshadowed in the events of Skypiea. This has led fans to speculate that the Battle of Shandora, which was introduced in the arc, could potentially be the concluding battle of the Void Century.

In chapter 272 of One Piece, Nico Robin uncovers the ruins of Shandora and makes a significant discovery. Among the remains of the city, she finds Poneglyphs and evidence of a past battle against an unknown enemy. This discovery is connected to the dialogue in chapter 395 where Professor Clover explains the reason behind using Poneglyphs to record history instead of traditional books and paper. According to Clover, the people of Shandora must have believed that their message would not survive if written on paper.

Similarly, Robin observes that all of Shandora’s books have been destroyed and the city’s history has been erased as a result. This makes Shandora a symbolic reflection of Clover’s words to the Gorosei during the devastating Buster Call on Ohara. Additionally, it is worth noting that numerous Poneglyphs can still be found in Shandora, hinting at a possible alliance with Wano. Robin further speculates that at some point in the past, a Poneglyph must have been intentionally brought to Shandora for a specific purpose.

In particular, the Poneglyph located in Shandora can be found within the Great Bell during the events of One Piece’s Skypiea arc. This Poneglyph is one of the Rio Poneglyphs, which reveal the True History of the Void Century. However, the most intriguing aspect of this Poneglyph is the 8 cube-shaped holes located at the top of the Great Bell’s golden monument.

According to legend, the Great Bell was once encircled by a total of 4 altars, which were visible throughout Skypiea. The fact that there are 4 Road Poneglyphs and 8 Rio Poneglyphs surrounded by the same number of altars is highly unlikely to be a mere coincidence. It is believed that all 13 Poneglyphs were originally located in Shandora, making it a prime target for the enemy during the final stages of the “Great Cleansing.”

The final battle at Shandora is believed to have occurred shortly after Nefertari D. Lili became a member of the D. Clan and assumed responsibility for scattering the Poneglyphs. This is further supported by the fact that Shandora valiantly fought to protect the Poneglyphs, as evident in Lili’s final words. It would also establish a direct connection between Lili and the enigmatic One Piece character, as claimed by Imu.

Therefore, it can be inferred that the conflict at Shandora was a deliberate effort to honor Lili’s wishes and satisfy her goals by safeguarding the Poneglyphs from the opposing force. This further implies that the event occurred towards the conclusion of the Void Century, as Lili had already severed ties with the World Government and refused to pledge allegiance to the “Empty”Throne during this period.

It is probable that Fishman Island and Wano joined forces with Shandora during the battle, providing insight into Joy Boy’s apology to Poseidon. This could also clarify the Iron Giant’s apology to Joy Boy, as depicted in the current Egghead arc. Ultimately, it could shed light on the “offense”committed by the Buccaneers, including their dispersal of the Poneglyphs throughout the four seas after Shandora’s downfall, in accordance with Lili’s plea to safeguard them at all costs.
