VTuber Criticizes ‘Incompetent’ Twitch After Month-Long Ban Lifted Due to Legal Threat

Prominent VTuber, MOTHERv3, recently expressed her frustration with Twitch after the platform erroneously imposed a month-long ban on her account for alleged fraud. This action led to significant disruption, particularly during a peak earning period for streamers.

MOTHERv3 stands out in the VTuber community by utilizing text-to-speech software instead of her own voice, enhancing her persona as an “artificially intelligent lifeform.” Her unique approach has earned her a dedicated following of over 107,000 fans, who are drawn to her innovative broadcasts and vibrant digital avatar. Unfortunately, her channel faced an unexpected ban during what she characterized as the most lucrative month of the year for streamers.

Throughout December, MOTHERv3 was banned indefinitely, a period she considers crucial for her income as a streamer. “December generates more revenue than the entirety of the summer months combined,” she stated. “And Twitch ruined that with their incompetence.”

An Unexpected Ban: What Went Wrong?

The incident appears to stem from a misunderstanding. MOTHERv3 believes her account was flagged for fraud, potentially due to a transaction in which someone refunded gifted bits or subscriptions from her stream.

After verifying with her bank that all purchases were legitimate, she urged her bank to communicate directly with Twitch to sort out the issue. However, her attempts to appeal the ban through Twitch’s Help Center were met with immediate rejections. Even after sending further emails to seek clarification, she received only automated responses directing her back to the Help Center.

Despite her persistent efforts, including requests for human assistance, the cycle of automated replies continued. “For weeks, I have been sending tickets asking about my ban, only to receive generic responses,” she explained in a broadcast on January 21, illustrating her growing frustration.

MOTHERv3 revealed that she submitted more than 50 tickets to Twitch during the ban period. It was only after involving her legal team that her suspension was lifted within just one week. “Isn’t that funny?” she remarked, enclosing her frustrations with a hint of sarcasm.

During her livestream, a viewer also pointed out that they had been charged for subscription renewals to her channel while she was still banned, prompting her to take action on their behalf.

This incident is not isolated within the VTuber community; other content creators have faced similar issues. For example, in October 2024, VTuber chromuchromu was bewildered by a ban for ‘youth risky’ behavior, despite clearly labeling her streams as 18+, coinciding with Twitch’s controversial attire updates that shook the VTubing landscape.
