Wang Yibo took the stage at the entertainment agency Yuehua’s company concert in China on August 24.
After rising to fame with a role in the popular TV drama “The Untamed,”Wang Yibo, who first debuted as a member of the Korean-Chinese group UNIQ in 2014, is now primarily focused on his career in China.
Despite his immense fanbase, Wang Yibo’s presence at the Yuehua company concert has essentially turned it into his own personal music showcase. However, even among his loyal supporters, there were divisions that resulted in a heated conflict, ultimately resulting in a physical altercation.
Specifically, Wang Yibo’s fanbase is primarily split into two groups: solo fans, who solely support Wang Yibo and show their support with green light sticks, and couple fans, who ship Wang Yibo with his co-star Xiao Zhan from “The Untamed”and use yellow light sticks.
This resulted in a heated “battle”between fans wielding green and yellow light sticks, as they argued over which color dominated during the show. Some fans even accused the opposing group of photoshopping images to portray their color as more dominant. The internet was filled with heated exchanges between the two groups of fans.
This disagreement has become widely popular, rising to the top of China’s largest social media platform, Weibo, as the most searched topic.
Despite the fan fight occurring primarily in online spaces, it also escalated into a physical altercation at the concert venue. A video of a Wang Yibo fan physically attacking another fan has been circulating on the internet, resulting in serious injuries.
It was difficult for numerous netizens to not be dismayed by the intense and violent fan culture within Wang Yibo’s fandom.
