Warzone Area 99: Revealing the Origins of Treyarch’s Most Iconic Map

The main feature of the integration between Black Ops 6 and Warzone is the addition of the Area 99 map, which may seem familiar to players as it is where the popular Call of Duty map Nuketown originated.

The August 28 CoD Next event provided players with an extensive look into the multiplayer of BO6, while also revealing details about the upcoming era of Warzone. The battle royale will see significant gameplay modifications, including adjustments to the looting system and Perks.

With the arrival of Season 1, you will have the opportunity to experience the significant updates on the brand new Area 99 map. This map, situated in the Nevada desert, is an industrial zone that includes points of interest such as Warehouse, Loading Bay, and Manufacturing. It is a highly confidential government installation that is hidden from public knowledge.

You may find this all to be quite familiar, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised to learn that the developers have confirmed Area 99 as the original location of Nuketown. The new Warzone map is closely connected to the popular CoD map.

Similar to the iconic maps of Shipment, Rust, and Crash, Nuketown has solidified its place in Call of Duty history. As we enter this new chapter of Warzone, players will have the opportunity to explore the origins of Nuketown.

When Call of Duty: Black Ops first introduced the map, it was portrayed as a location that would showcase the devastating effects of a nuclear weapon on a 1950s suburban community. It has since been revealed that Area 99 is actually a facility constructed during the 1950s for the purpose of conducting nuclear weapon tests.

Nuketown’s iconic features include the mannequins and the vehicles located in the center of the map. The Mannequin POI at Area 99 pays tribute to Nuketown, and players can also spot the vehicle with an open middle section on the Resurgence map.

The release date for Black Ops 6 Season 1 has not been confirmed yet, but you can still keep yourself occupied with the classic Prestige grind until it is released.
