Players of Call of Duty: Warzone have expressed mixed opinions regarding the recent adjustments to player counts on the new Area 99 map, with some insisting further modifications are necessary for improved gameplay.
Before the integration of Warzone with Black Ops 6, it was revealed that Area 99 would debut as the first new map in the battle royale. Unlike the expansive maps many fans anticipated, Area 99 is designed for the Resurgence mode and offers a smaller, more compact playing field reminiscent of Rebirth Island.
Since its release, Area 99 has faced significant backlash from the player community. Gamers have reported difficulties returning to the battlefield during resurgence, often stating that encounters feel overwhelming due to the prevalence of third-party engagements caused by the map’s limited size.
The player count was reduced in the November 25 update, an effort by the developers to alleviate some of this congestion across all modes available on Area 99.
Community Feedback on Area 99 Player Count Adjustments
While a segment of the community perceives this adjustment positively, favoring the creation of more breathing room within matches, others remain skeptical.
One Reddit user, ZaphBeebs, voiced frustration, stating, “There’s still way, way too many people. You can barely breathe on the map and there’s always another person after you.” Another player chimed in, noting, “Too much visual noise makes it hard to identify players, especially when many skins blend into the map.”
Another player commented on the chaotic state of gameplay, suggesting that the map may soon resemble a chaotic “mosh pit”in a future 10v10 mode. They even advocated for the reintroduction of previous maps like Ashika, Vondel, and Fortune’s Keep, highlighting a desire for variety.
Conversely, some players argue that the core issue lies in the map’s design rather than the player count itself. One user remarked, “I don’t think there’s enough verticality variance,” while another suggested increasing the number of buy stations. There were also suggestions for implementing “spawn protection” for players respawning, allowing them to land without immediately taking damage.
Area 99 serves as Warzone’s latest small-scale battlefield.
Given that Area 99 only launched in Season 1, the challenge of implementing meaningful map changes is evident. Speculation continues regarding the possible return of fan-favorite Verdansk and the introduction of a new map, Avalon, later this year. These future updates may provide opportunities to address current concerns.
