Recent developments surrounding Call of Duty: Warzone have stirred speculation regarding the much-anticipated return of the iconic Verdansk map, but players may need to exercise patience as they wait.
At the CoD Next event in August 2024, Activision surprised the community by confirming Verdansk’s comeback is slated for 2025. Initially, it was believed that the upcoming Black Ops 6 would feature Verdansk as its central battle royale arena at launch.
However, a leak on June 27 shifted expectations, indicating that the beloved map would actually make its debut midway through the game’s lifecycle rather than upon release.
The Waning Enthusiasm of Warzone Players
According to insights from noted Call of Duty leaker TheGhostofHope, CharlieIntel has reported that Verdansk is expected to return in Season 03 of Black Ops 6. With Season 2 set to launch on January 28, and the first season having commenced on November 14 for a duration of about 75 days, it’s projected that players won’t be able to experience Verdansk until at least early to mid-April.
Compounding the disappointment, Black Ops 6 launched without a new battle royale map, leaving many players eager to move away from the current environment of Urzikstan.
“Three more months with Urzikstan unchanged and with a broken and boring Warzone,” one frustrated fan remarked.
Another user expressed their confusion: “Why wait until Season 3? What’s taking them so long?” This sentiment reflects a growing impatience among the community.
Moreover, there are concerns that the return of Verdansk may not adequately rectify the existing issues plaguing Warzone. In December 2024 alone, the game witnessed a staggering decline of over 102,000 players, equating to a 32.6% drop in its Steam player base.
Many frustrations stem from persistent performance issues and a significant presence of cheaters, leading players to worry that these challenges will remain unaddressed until foundational problems are resolved.
“The game will be completely dead by Season 3 if they don’t make major changes in the Season 2 update,” another commenter voiced their concern.
