Raven Software has announced plans for significant enhancements to the Ricochet anti-cheat system in 2025, as players grapple with a surge of hacking incidents in Black Ops 6. This initiative is crucial as the gaming community continues to voice concerns about cheating undermining the experience.
Throughout the history of Call of Duty, cheating has found its way into various titles. An illustrative example is the 2009 release of Modern Warfare 2, notable for offering animated clan tags, XP hacks that accelerated progression, and even a notorious game mode called Global Thermonuclear Warfare.
In recent years, the escalation of hacking has discouraged many players from engaging with Warzone during its Verdansk era due to rampant cheating. This situation has not improved significantly in Black Ops 6, where cheaters leveraging wall hacks and aimbots have continued to disrupt gameplay in both standard multiplayer and Warzone matches.
Upcoming Ricochet Updates for Call of Duty in 2025
The developers have acknowledged that Ricochet has occasionally fallen short of expectations in the latest title. They are now committed to rolling out further updates aimed at addressing the ongoing cheating issues.
On December 23, Raven Software provided an update on their progress, stating: “As we approach the end of the year, we’d like to share some insight on what we’re working on for Warzone. Cheating remains our top priority, particularly in our Ranked Play environment, and we want to acknowledge the impact it’s having on our players. We are working closely with the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat team to pinpoint the sources of this behavior and take the necessary steps to protect our players. This is a matter that we hold close to our heart, as it affects everyone – developers and players alike.”

This announcement coincided with Treyarch’s insistence on enabling cross-play for Ranked Play in Multiplayer, which forces console gamers to compete against PC players. This decision has sparked mixed reactions within the community.
Despite recent reports highlighting the banning of 20,000 cheaters, players have continued to express skepticism regarding the effectiveness of the Ricochet updates. There is a growing hope that the forthcoming improvements will effectively address these concerns and enhance the gameplay experience for all users.
