Warzone Developers Confirm Game-Changing Buff to Modern Warfare 2 Snipers

The Sniper Rifles in Modern Warfare 2 have a significant disadvantage compared to their MW3 counterparts in Warzone due to their reliance on Explosive Rounds to achieve a one-shot headshot. Fortunately, the upcoming removal of this ammo requirement will greatly improve their effectiveness.

The initial version of Warzone was heavily influenced by snipers, who were able to take out enemies with just one shot to the head. When Warzone 2 was released, this was changed so that snipers required two shots to kill, regardless of where the bullet landed. However, this issue was eventually resolved by implementing Explosive Rounds. The only downside to using these rounds was that they significantly decreased bullet velocity, making snipers more challenging to handle.

After the release of Modern Warfare 3, its Sniper Rifles were capable of one-shot headshots with any ammunition type. Despite some exceptions, the Sniper Rifles in MW2 became obsolete once again. Among the MW3 snipers, the KATT-AMR, XRK Stalker, and Kar98k have been the most widely favored.

Despite not being included in the Season 5 update, it was revealed in a creator brief prior to the season’s release that MW2 sniper rifles will soon be able to kill with one shot without the use of Explosive Rounds.

This significant buff will elevate MW2 snipers to the forefront, providing the category with a wider range of options. By opting for High Grain or High Velocity Rounds over Explosive, these snipers will become more viable for long-range engagements, rivaling popular choices such as the Kar98k. Alternatively, for those who prefer quickscoping, they can forego the ammo category and equip a more mobile option.

The FJX Imperium could be a dominant choice in Season 5.

Despite its status as one of Call of Duty’s all-time greats, the fan-favorite Intervention (FJX Imperium) has been hindered by its dependence on Explosive Rounds. However, it is possible that it could become a popular choice in Warzone and join the meta.

The Season 5 update has also introduced significant changes to the meta, including buffs and nerfs, as well as a highly requested adjustment to the Gas Mask feature.

There is currently no information on the release date for these Sniper changes, but they may be included in the upcoming Season 5 Reloaded update. Meanwhile, players can obtain the classic STG Assault Rifle and new Static-HV SMG by progressing through the Season 5 Battle Pass.
