The latest update for Black Ops 6 has led many fans of Warzone to declare the game “unplayable” on Steam. Nonetheless, players using other platforms report a much smoother experience.
Warzone has evolved into a central hub for various Call of Duty titles over the last few years, allowing weapons from different games to compete for dominance in the gameplay meta. However, the integration of Black Ops 6 into Warzone has not unfolded as expected. Despite the introduction of the new omnimovement system designed to enhance player mobility, the battle royale experience has become surprisingly sluggish. Additionally, Urzikstan remains the primary map, which was not optimized for this new movement approach.
Performance Issues for Warzone on Steam
Many Steam users feel that playing Warzone on this platform is an inferior choice compared to experiencing it on consoles or BattleNet.
One Reddit user, known as Deathless729, shared their experience: “I tried playing the new Warzone with the Omnimovement update on Steam and managed about 120 FPS with a 4070S and 7800X3D. In comparison, I played Multiplayer via the Xbox app and achieved 200-240 FPS.” They went on to describe the gameplay, stating, “120 FPS felt incredibly low, and it seemed much less smooth than that, experiencing significant stutters. Videos comparing Steam to Xbox and BattleNet show around 50% lower FPS on Steam in this latest update.”

This concern isn’t isolated. Another player reported, “I just tried a Warzone game on Steam and was only getting 40 FPS on an RTX 3060 with an i5-11400F at low settings.” Another echoed similar woes, “The drop in FPS in multiplayer has hit me by 50-60 frames just this past week.” Some even confirmed significant performance improvements on BattleNet: “I went ahead and installed it there and consistently got 150-160 FPS.”
As Season 1 of Warzone rolls out, featuring all the weapons and systems introduced with Black Ops 6, some players have pointed to recent Steam updates, including new in-game clip recording features, as potential culprits for these performance issues. Others suspect that the anti-cheat system may also be contributing to the troubles.
It remains uncertain whether the developers will recognize and address the identified problems specifically affecting Steam. Gamers can only hope that a resolution is forthcoming.
