Warzone Ranked Exploitation Tweak Promised

The developers of Warzone ‘s ranked mode, Treyarch, have promised a fairly significant update to the game in a future update, as they look to eliminate the abundance of “taps”throughout Fortune’s Keep that could artificially inflate SR.

Ranked mode launched in Warzone alongside the launch of Season 2, coming with the Fortune’s Keep Resurgence map at the same time.

It’s a totally different ranked experience for Warzone players, who have only played on the big map so far, but Ranked Resurgence represents a huge change of pace, both literally and figuratively.

However, players quickly realized that there was an easy way to help boost their SR, namely “taps” — which could soon be a thing of the past.

What are taps in Warzone?

In Warzone’s ranked mode, you earn SR (Skill Rating) points for kills and assists, as well as for your place in a match.

Players quickly noticed, however, that they were also getting extra SR for shots at players who were already down, prompting them to start “tapping” opponents who had already been knocked down to gain some extra SR. even if they had not carried out the grounding themselves.

This has become a divisive issue among competitive players, with many calling for the removal of taps — and they may finally have their wish granted.

Treyarch promises a change regarding “taps”

In a post dated February 14, Treyarch addressed the situation: “In a future update, we will adjust how SR for kills and assists are awarded when engaging in combat with downed enemies to mitigate the game of “tap” and increase the competitive integrity of the SR system…

“Players who did not deal damage to the eliminated player shortly before they went down will instead gain SR for teammate elimination when their teammates go down and eliminate an enemy. In the same future update, we will award SR for kill by a teammate whether the player is dead or alive.”

They revealed the following changes:

  • Only the following players will receive credit for kills and assists when a player is eliminated:
    • The player who knocked down the eliminated player.
    • Players who dealt damage to the eliminated player shortly before he was knocked down.

They added that “this change is made to ensure the competitive integrity of SR for kills and assists by removing the ability for players to ‘tap’ downed enemies to inflate their SR gains.”

When exactly this future update will take place remains to be seen. They could be looking at the distant future for Season 3, which will be in early April, or perhaps the Season 2 Reloaded update which will be at some point in March, and perhaps a more desired timeline for ranked players.
