The Season 5 Reloaded update for MW3 and Warzone brought in a variety of compelling new features, but it also required players to enable a graphics setting that results in higher lag.
Upon logging in after the recent update, certain Call of Duty players may have observed an increase in latency compared to their previous experience. This could potentially be attributed to the mandatory implementation of On-Demand Texture Streaming on August 21.
On the Quality tab, there is a graphics setting called On-Demand Texture Streaming that utilizes your internet connection to download textures while you are playing. This feature allows players to enjoy high-quality textures without taking up too much storage space.
Although this may provide benefits, it can also result in increased lag during gameplay. This is due to the added strain on network bandwidth, which can lead to higher latency for individuals with slower connections.
On-Demand Texture Streaming is now mandatory following the Season 5 Reloaded update.
Prior to the update, it was possible to disable On-Demand Texture Streaming without any restrictions, and this was actually advised for those seeking to improve performance. However, the current options have been reduced to just two: Minimal and Optimized.
The Optimized option results in the game downloading additional high-quality textures, while the Minimal option only downloads essential textures. Although the latter consumes less bandwidth, both options use more bandwidth than the previous version.
The Call of Duty community has voiced their disapproval of this feature, as evidenced by a highly upvoted comment on Reddit which states, “I absolutely despise On-Demand Texture Streaming. It significantly hinders the gameplay experience.”
Forced texture streaming is now a thing. Hopefully with enough feedback, we can have this reversed byu/RuggedTheDragon inModernWarfareIII
In the same way, a different user also commented, expressing frustration with the poor connection to the servers and the added burden of forced texture streaming. They suggested a solution of allowing users to download the 64 GB textures once and be done with it.
Many other users in the thread reported an increase in packet loss since the update was released, leading some to question why the community was forced to accept it.
The most frequent demand was for Activision to provide a downloadable option for storing textures. This would allow Warzone players to select between a smoother gameplay with a larger file size or a smaller file size with higher latency.
