Watching Matt Walsh’s Controversial Transgender Documentary Following “Am I Racist?”

Whether you’re a fan or critic of Matt Walsh, it seems that many are curious about where to view his documentary focused on transgender issues.

The right-wing podcaster and filmmaker Matt Walsh has recently stirred controversy with his documentary Am I Racist, particularly as some of his supporters argue that mainstream media outlets have overlooked the film’s coverage.

However, Am I Racist is not Walsh’s first endeavor into creating polarizing projects that challenge one side of the political spectrum.

Walsh previously directed the 2022 documentary What Is a Woman, which explores gender identity and the concept of womanhood. So, where can you watch this film in its entirety? Here’s what we know.

Understanding What Is a Woman

What Is a Woman is Matt Walsh’s documentary that examines gender and identity debates from a conservative perspective.

In this film, the podcast host travels across the nation to interview politicians, gender studies experts, transgender individuals, and parents of transgender children in his quest to define what a woman is.

The documentary seeks to reinforce Walsh’s viewpoint against what he terms “transgender ideology,” suggesting that factions on the political left endorse a movement that could potentially “harm” future generations by challenging traditional gender roles.

Where to Watch What Is a Woman

What Is a Woman can be viewed by subscribers of The Daily Wire+.

This right-leaning platform hosts both of Walsh’s films and also features his long-running political commentary show, The Matt Walsh Show.

Additionally, those with access to The Roku Channel can watch What Is a Woman for free, as it is currently available on that platform.

Why it’s So Controversial

Matt Walsh’s What Is a Woman is controversial because many perceive it as an attack on the transgender community. Some participants in the documentary have claimed that they were misled into participating.

At least three individuals featured in Walsh’s film told NBC News that they felt deceived about the nature of the documentary.

Dr. Marci Bowers, a California surgeon, Dr. Michelle Forcier, a Brown University professor, and Naia Ōkami, a transgender woman from Washington state, all distanced themselves from Walsh’s project after more information surfaced.

“I didn’t really know about Matt’s conservative credentials,” Bowers stated. “They sugarcoated it just a little bit. They didn’t give me an indication of what it would really be about, but they did give me the title of the video.”

Even before these individuals spoke out, trans rights advocate Eli Erlick published an extensive Twitter thread where they accused Walsh and his team of attempting to recruit them for the documentary under false pretenses, using a fake name and a front organization called the Gender Unity Project.

While Walsh’s first film release was met with backlash from mainstream media, it currently boasts an 86% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nonetheless, viewer reviews are mixed. One critique noted, “The movie is closer to a video opinion essay than an examination of an issue… What Is A Woman? is utterly devoid of curiosity or generosity. It’s fueled by anger and fear, and partisan calculation. Walsh presents himself as a wise man, but he’s merely a cyberbully.”

Another review stated, “A film made to sermonize to the already converted, those already primed to see the simple existence of trans people as worthy of laughter and contempt rather than curiosity or empathy, then hand them weapons in the form of lazy disinformation and hate.”
