Western Digital has just released a new Xbox expansion storage card for Series S/X consoles in the dark. The WD Black C50 1 TB Xbox card is already available at BestBuy. A news report by The Verge’s Tom Warren was the first to shine light on the situation. This is the first time Microsoft has collaborated with a company other than Seagate on Xbox storage cards.
In September 2020, Microsoft introduced Xbox expandable storage cards with their Xbox Series S and X consoles. At the time, the only accessible option was 1TB. Seagate was the sole manufacturer of these expansion cards. About a year later, the business introduced 2 TB and 512 GB models.
Although the price of these expandable storage cards for PS5 consoles has dropped dramatically, the price of Xbox cards has remained quite expensive. Western Digital has now entered the fray. Let’s see if it’s just a marketing ploy or if it’s capable of revolutionizing the Xbox expandable storage market.

To begin with, Western Digital has only introduced the 1TB variant for the time being, so we may anticipate the 512 GB and 2 TB variations in the future. The new WD Black C50 1TB Xbox extendable storage card costs $179.99, according to BestBuy. It costs $40 less than the Seagate Xbox One 1TB inbuilt NVMe SSD.
Both cards are very similar in terms of specifications and functionality. Both include a plug-and-play interface and the ability to resume immediately. While being less expensive, Western Digital offers a five-year warranty as opposed to Seagate’s three-year warranty.
Here’s a table that compares the prices of Western Digital and Seagate Xbox storage cards:
Models | Seagate Internal NVMe SSD Storage Expansion Card for Xbox | WD Black C50 1TB Expansion Card for Xbox |
512GB | $99.00 | NA |
1TB | $219.99 | $179.99 |
2TB | $399.99 | NA |
The new manufacturer will undoubtedly compete with Seagate, giving players optimism for a future price decrease for the Xbox extended storage card. It’s unclear when players will be able to order it from BestBuy. The wait will continue until either the Western Digital or Microsoft teams provide confirmation.
