Nicknames are predetermined names that players can use to name their Insurgent in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This is a safety measure, in case some players decide to use an inappropriate first name for their character.
Although players can choose the first name of their choice, inappropriate or not, the game can automatically replace it with the chosen Nickname if it deems it necessary.

Please note that you can name your character whatever you want. However, if Capcom finds this offensive or inappropriate, it will replace your custom name with the Nickname you chose for your character.
As mentioned earlier, you will need to select your Nickname from a list of predefined names, ranging from A to Z. After choosing your first name, simply select your preferred Nickname and you will be good to go.
However, keep in mind that you cannot change your Nickname once you select it. Currently, there is no official way to change your Nickname mid-game.
