“Couples without children and with dual incomes are turning to TikTok to showcase the benefits of their lifestyle, but not everyone is supportive of this trend.”
John Eringman, also known as ‘johnefinance’ on TikTok, has caused controversy with his latest video promoting the advantages of being a “DINK”. The polarizing content has sparked a debate online, with the popular TikTok user boasting a following of over 1.3 million.
The topic sparked a debate about the advantages and disadvantages of the lifestyle, as numerous individuals shared their viewpoints on the subject. While some argue that the DINK lifestyle is self-centered, even Elon Musk joined in on the discussion.
DINK: An Explanation
TikTok has sparked a renewed interest in the term “double income no kids,”which has been in use for many years.
Despite Eringman promoting the lifestyle and offering his assistance to “help DINKs master their money”on his page, the video has resulted in a backlash.

In his initial post, Eringman is captured strolling alongside his partner Paige as they outline the advantages of being DINKs.
Some examples of these habits are making sure to get a “full eight hours of sleep,”ordering “desserts and appetizers at restaurants,”and finding the time to “still do it three times a week.”
The video’s popularity has continued to grow, with more than 3.2 million views and over 4,600 comments. This has sparked increased curiosity in the DINK lifestyle, as more couples are now sharing their own experiences and the benefits they have found in living without children on TikTok.
Despite Musk’s disapproval, not everyone shares his sentiment, including the multibillionaire and father of ten, who noticed Eringman’s TikTok after it was reposted to X (formerly Twitter).
Elon Musk wrote on X that intentionally choosing not to have children carries a selfish disregard for the fact that others may have to provide care for them in their later years, which is morally problematic.

Despite varying opinions, the topic of DINKs has been widely discussed on TikTok in recent years. While some users argue that rising inflation and living expenses are the primary factors behind their decision to not have children, others have been vocal about their long-standing desire to remain child-free.
At the same time, several popular DINK creators have announced that they are no longer living the DINK lifestyle after revealing that they are expecting a baby.
Despite having only a total of 50,000 videos, the hashtags “dink”and “dinks”continue to fuel discussions about DINK lifestyles, showing no signs of fading away anytime soon.
The current viral trend on TikTok involves individuals investing their time and money into “fridgescaping,”decorating their fridges in the latest craze to hit the platform.
