Sungjae’s Journey: From Debut with BTOB to Departure from Cube and New Contract with IWill Media

On March 21, 2012, Sungjae made his debut with BTOB by releasing their first digital single “Insane.”

In addition to Sungjae, BTOB consists of Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Changsub, and Hyunsik. Their name is also a combination of initials, standing for “Born To Beat.”

Cube Entertainment has officially announced the departure of BTOB from their former agency on November 6. It was confirmed that the members have chosen not to renew their exclusive contracts and will be separating from the agency.

Cube announced that they will not be renewing their second exclusive contract with BTOB, following in-depth discussions with the members.

After choosing not to renew their contract, BTOB’s 11-year partnership with Cube came to an end. Subsequently, Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Hyunsik, and Peniel made the decision to continue their group activities through BTOB Company, which is now under the management of DOD.

On November 22, 2023, Changsub, a member of the third-generation boy group ASTRO, decided to enter into an exclusive contract with Fantagio, the group’s management company.

Subsequently, on December 22, 2023, Sungjae signed a contract with IWill Media, a new agency, following the previous event.

Update on Sungjae’s Current Status

On April 25, Sungjae released the first teaser for his long-awaited comeback. Fans were overjoyed with the announcement of his upcoming first single album “EXHIBITION: Look Closely,”which is set to be dropped on May 9 at 6 p.m. KST, according to multiple online posts.

Sungjae’s upcoming album, set to be released under his new agency IWill Media, will mark his first release since parting ways with his longtime company Cube Entertainment.
