Jujutsu Kaisen features a diverse cast of fascinating characters who make appearances throughout the series. Each character is carefully crafted by mangaka Gege Akutami and possesses their own unique traits. One standout is the enigmatic Hana Kurusu, also known as Angel.
During the Perfect Preparation Arc, Master Tengen mentions her as the one who can “extinguish”Cursed Techniques. Her presence becomes more apparent during the Culling Games as she rescues Megumi Fushiguro and continues to play a role in the ongoing Shinjuku Showdown Arc.
According to the lore of Jujutsu Kaisen, the Angel, an ancient Heian Era sorcerer, made a deal with Kenjaku and was reborn into Hana’s body. However, unlike other incarnations, the Angel allowed Hana to maintain control of her own body.
Their symbiotic relationship resulted in Hana gaining access to the Angel’s techniques and abilities, causing her Cursed Technique to transform into Technique Extinguishment.
Understanding Hana’s Cursed Technique
As previously stated, Hana has the unique ability to nullify Cursed Techniques through the Technique Extinguishment Cursed Technique, which was granted to her when the Angel inhabited her body. This power allows her to extinguish or neutralize any type of CT, including barriers, cursed objects, and even high-level ones like the Prison Realm.
Despite the slight chance, the Angel’s method appears to have the ability to reverse incarnations back to their pre-incarnation state. Nevertheless, the chances are greater that the vessel will meet its demise instead.
Thanks to the effectiveness of Technique Extinguishment, Hana/Angel was able to successfully release Gojo Satoru from the Prison Realm.
The Strengths and Weaknesses of Jacob’s Ladder
It appears that Hana possesses an extremely potent CT, as long as it is properly executed. This was evident when she invoked it and Ryomen Sukuna subsequently possessed Megumi’s body, resulting in almost fatal consequences due to its “cleansing”effect.
The King of Curses resorted to using a deceitful method to protect himself from being eliminated. The technique’s main advantage is its ability to render any CTs, such as barriers and cursed objects, ineffective.
Upon closer examination, some weaknesses can be identified. Firstly, Hana/Angel must be in close proximity to their target in order to ensure that they are caught in the pillar of light. Additionally, as with any sorcerer, the effectiveness of the technique relies on the physical capabilities of the sorcerer.
Despite activating the full power of Maximum Output: Jacob’s Ladder during the ongoing Shinjuku Showdown Arc, its strength was reduced due to the caster’s missing arm. Thus, for the technique to be utilized at maximum capacity, the caster must be physically unharmed.
Every time Hana uses Jacob’s Ladder in Jujutsu Kaisen
Hana/Angel has employed Jacob’s Ladder multiple times throughout Jujutsu Kaisen. The first instance occurs during the Culling Games Arc when Sukuna possesses Megumi’s body. However, due to the incomplete possession, Sukuna is almost eliminated before pretending to be Megumi and inflicting severe injuries on Hana/Angel.
Previously, Hana/Angel had agreed to a deal with Jacob’s Ladder to free Gojo from the Prison Realm. This deal required her to aid in eliminating all other Culling Game players, primarily the “Disgraced One”also known as Sukuna, in order to unseal the Six Eyes user. Next, she carried out this agreement and successfully freed Gojo.
During the most recent events of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, Hana and Angel were called upon by Yuta Okkotsu to help separate Megumi and Sukuna’s souls. This was not the first time they had performed this task, but Hana’s missing arm made the technique less effective than before. Nevertheless, they agreed to assist in a final attempt.
