What is required by the Cross Guild to locate the One Piece?

Since they continued the pace and tone that the series has maintained over the years, the most recent spoilers and leaks for the upcoming One Piece chapter were especially exciting. This most recent batch of spoilers, raw scans, and scanlations was particularly intriguing because it was centered on the Cross Guild, who were essentially Buggy the Clown’s crew.

Fans also witnessed Buggy declare that the Cross Guild, together with colleagues Yonko Blackbeard, Shanks, and Luffy, is now actively searching for the One Piece. While the majority of the Cross Guild members were thrilled to hear this news, Crocodile and Mihawk were furious that Buggy had set such an impossible objective. This raises the question of whether it is indeed implausible for the Cross Guild to win the series’ titular treasure after entering the fray so late.

The Cross Guild may face challenges on the way to the One Piece, but they are not insurmountable.

It’s worth describing where the series’ prize is and why it needs specific items to be obtained before getting into what the Cross Guild needs to find the One Piece. Gol D. Roger, the former Pirate King who was the first to fully sail the Grand Line, left the treasure behind. This includes the last island, called Laugh Tale, where Roger left the famous treasure and gave the island its name.

In actuality, as was revealed in the Kozuki Oden flashback, the treasure had already been left there by Joy Boy; Roger and his team had only recently discovered it. In addition, it was only on Roger’s second voyage around the Grand Line that he discovered the Laugh Story. As per their Log Poses, when he and his crew arrived at Lodestar Island on their first attempt, they were unable to continue.

The reason for this was that they lacked the four Road Poneglyphs, which are essential for reaching Laugh Tale and discovering the One Piece. A subset of the larger Poneglyphs, which are enormous stone tablets with ancient writing engraved onto them, are known as the Road Poneglyphs. These texts can be anything, including narratives, histories of the real world, and maps that aid in the location of the One Piece.

However, only a select group of readers, each with a different level of proficiency and accuracy, are known to exist. In contrast, Gol D. Roger, who possessed the Voice of All Things, was able to decipher what was written on the Poneglyph while not being able to read the language itself. One race that is naturally predisposed to possessing the Voice of All Things is the Three-Eye Tribe.

Beyond this, only Kozuki Sukiyaki of Wano and Nico Robin of the Straw Hat Pirates are able to read the text on the Poneglyphs. This means that in order for Buggy to interpret the Road Poneglyphs and locate the One Piece, he will either need to persuade Sukiyaki or Robin to collaborate with the Cross Guild.

The Three-Eye Tribe’s homeland is unknown, which is a way to categorize who can and cannot hear the Voice of All Things, but he can try to discover someone with it. The more challenging challenge is obtaining the Road Poneglyphs, even if Buggy manages to find someone who will read them for him.

Three of the four—out of the total four—have known locations. The first is in Big Mom’s hands, the second is in the Whale Tree in Zou, and the third is stashed away in an undiscovered tunnel in Old Wano at the base of the submerged Mount Fuji. The fourth one, however, is being protected by a burn scarred individual who travels on an all-black ship and utilizes whirlpools to keep onlookers at bay.

Last thoughts

To get the One Piece, Buggy and the Cross Guild must locate five essential items. Buggy needs someone who can read the Road Poneglyphs most of all. If he succeeds in doing so, Laugh Tale’s location can be determined by finding each of the previously mentioned four Road Poneglyphs. But if he can actually get these items is a completely different story.
