What is the Viral TikTok Series ‘The Dealership’? A Parody of ‘The Office’ that Features a Car Dealership

A car dealership in New York has gained viral attention for creating its own TikTok series inspired by The Office, with many fans hoping for it to be picked up by Netflix.

Mohawk Chevrolet’s decision to hire Grace Kerber, the creator of ‘The Dealership’, as their Digital Branding Creator was a stroke of luck. The series came about unintentionally when Kerber decided to hide miniature ducks around the office for employees to discover.

Kerber told writer Rachel Karten that the event took staff by surprise, but in a positive way.

As the day went on, some individuals were placing bets on the culprit’s identity, while others were gathering them under the belief that it was a reward, or reviewing security footage. My teammates, Ben and Nate, and I were aware of this ongoing situation and recognized the opportunity to create a mockumentary, similar to “The Office,”based on these events,”she explained.

The editing and style of the shows pay tribute to The Office, as seen in the interviews with employees, absence of a laugh track, and continuous deadpan delivery.

The initial episode, titled ‘Get Ducked,’ received widespread praise upon its release in late June, and the producers have since continued to release new episodes for TikTok every Tuesday.

According to Kerber, the team has a general idea of what the episodes will be about, but they are often inspired by real-life events at Mohawk.

“According to her, we don’t really have a script. We’ve learned that too much planning can make things feel forced or less humorous, so we prefer to keep the cameras rolling and see what happens.”

The series is receiving immense love from fans. One fan commented, “Netflix needs to pick up Mohawk Chevrolet quickly because I am completely hooked and can’t stop watching.”

Despite the success of The Dealership, its creators may soon face some major competition. A new show called ‘The Paper’, which is a spin-off of The Office, is currently being developed and will center around the Dunder Mifflin documentary team as they shift their focus to a struggling historic newspaper in the Midwest.
