Gillis, a stand-up comedian, holds an overall deal with Netflix. He is also the co-creator of Tires and in 2023, his comedy special, Beautiful Dogs, was released on the platform.
Steven Gerben is a multi-talented individual, known for his work as both an actor and director. After Tires was released, some fans expressed curiosity about Gerben’s hands, which seemed to be stiff in the series. In a 2021 episode of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, Gerben addressed this topic with a good sense of humor, explaining, “It was due to arthritis. The medication I was taking stopped working, so we tried different ones, but they didn’t work either. Eventually, the one that did work ended up weakening my whole body, and then COVID happened.”
Kilah Fox, known for her role as the unenthused receptionist in the series, has collaborated with Gillis in the past on his sketch show, Gilly and Keeves.
Rotten Tomatoes score
Season 1 of Tires has received a 40% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and an impressive 96% score from the audience.
These numbers were collected shortly after the series premiered and may continue to vary. Nevertheless, it appears to be a typical case of critics versus audience opinions.
According to Robert Lloyd’s review in the Los Angeles Times, he stated, “I wasn’t outraged by the humor, as it is too juvenile to be taken seriously. However, I did not find myself laughing at all,”giving the show a negative review.
Lili Loofbourow of the Washington Post noted that the comedy is broad, the plot is straightforward, and the stakes are minimal.
If you are a fan of Netflix’s stagnant sitcoms, chances are you will find Tires to be a great choice for a laid-back after-work viewing. However, it may not be suitable for those who prefer shows with sharper humor and wit.
