Twitch has introduced a new discovery feed function in order to promote a personalized experience for its users.
Twitch, the popular streaming platform, has introduced a new feature called the discovery feed. The purpose of this tool is to aid viewers in finding enjoyable content quickly and to help streamers gain exposure, even when they are not currently live.
In addition, a fresh method of interacting with content on the platform has been implemented, along with the introduction of new thumbs up and down buttons.
To fully utilize Twitch’s discovery feed, here is a comprehensive guide on its functionality, purpose, and overall impact on Twitch.
How does the Twitch Discovery Feed Work?
Upon the release of Twitch’s new discovery feed feature, the streaming platform published a blog post detailing the features and capabilities of the tool for users to anticipate.
The new feed can be utilized for both live stream content and for watching videos at a later time.
By combining both personalized content from streamers that users already interact with and suggestions for communities and content creators based on their past search and viewing habits, users are presented with a diverse selection of content.
There will be ads between content in your feed, but these ads will be scrollable, just like all feed content. We’ll be experimenting with more changes to the feed, ads, and the mobile experience soon 👀Learn more about the feed here: https://t.co/LekVPzdCPA pic.twitter.com/e0yBYBwblh

The discovery feed includes two tabs – one for live feeds and another for clip feeds. As mentioned in the blog post, switching between the two tabs is a straightforward task.
“Navigate through a vertical feed of preroll-free previews of live streams and select the streamer’s avatar to enter theater mode and join the live stream. In the near future, we plan on implementing the ability to join a live stream simply by tapping on the screen.”
The blog post went on to detail the functionality of the clips feed, which allows users to browse top moments from various Twitch streamers, even if they are currently offline. Additionally, viewers have the option to follow their favorite streamers directly from the feed and receive notifications when they go live. In the case that a streamer is live while the user is browsing, they can simply click on the streamer’s avatar to enter their live stream.
Twitch has introduced thumbs up and thumbs down buttons to incentivize users to use their Discovery Feed. These buttons allow viewers to indicate the type of content they want to see more or less of in their personal feed.
Are advertisements included in the Twitch Discovery Feed?
The ads that appear when scrolling through one’s feed have been generating significant buzz online, making it a key aspect of the new feature.
Twitch has confirmed that although ads will still be shown when scrolling, the discovery feed allows you to preview numerous live streams without being subjected to pre-roll ads. This feature allows you to determine if a particular stream is the right fit for you before having to watch any ads.
As you scroll through the feed, you may come across ads placed between content. However, these ads are designed to be scrollable like any other content, ensuring a seamless and non-intrusive experience.
Twitch also stated that they may continue to test different ways of displaying advertisements in the feed in the future.
