According to the CoD leaker HeyImAlaix, Rebirth Island will reportedly be replaced by Area 99 at the beginning of Black Ops 6. This change is reminiscent of Raven Software’s decision to phase out Ashika Island, Vondel, and Fortunes Keep during Modern Warfare 3.
In the past, the development team has previously removed Rebirth Island. The map was initially added in 2020, but was ultimately removed when Warzone 2 was released on November 16, 2022.
Two years later, on April 3, 2024, Raven Software released a remastered version of the iconic map as part of the Season 3 update. While some may be disappointed by its quick removal after finally being added back, it is not unprecedented.
The initial Fortune’s Keep was taken out of the map pool after just five months.
According to leaks, the development complications caused a delay and pushback of Verdansk for the launch of Black Ops 6, leaving fans wondering what other maps they can expect.
We anticipate receiving further details on what to anticipate from Area 99 at the upcoming CoD Next event.
