Pixar has returned with a new hit, as Joy, Sadness, Fear, Envy, and Anger once again take us on a literal rollercoaster of emotions. If you prefer to watch it from the comfort of your own home, here is when we predict Inside Out 2 will be available on Disney Plus.
The first movie, which received critical acclaim in 2015, has been followed up with Inside Out 2, and according to our review, Pixar has once again captured that same enchantment.
Despite being one of the top studios in the world of animated movies, it shouldn’t come as a shock that both Pixar and Disney have experienced failures at the box office in recent years.
Definitely a must-watch, but if you prefer to stay in and catch new films, let’s take a deeper look into the release date for Inside Out 2 on Disney Plus.
When is Inside Out 2 available on Disney+?
No specific date has been announced for the release of Inside Out 2 on Disney+, however, it will have a minimum of 100 days in theaters before it is considered for streaming.
Disney will give Inside Out 2 a theatrical exclusive release, ensuring it has a fair opportunity to attract an audience in cinemas.
Keeping this in mind, the movie on Disney+ should not be expected until at least September 2024.
During an interview with Time, Pixar’s CEO Pete Docter shared his thoughts on the plan, stating that they had initially planned for Elemental to have a short run, but as time went on, it proved to have staying power despite not opening as expected.
“I am unsure whether the marketing strategy was flawed, the venue was too congested, or the overall appearance was unappealing. However, word of mouth ultimately drove people to see it. I believe this would not have occurred had we released the film on Disney Plus three weeks later.”
Pixar strategy is changing
Pixar films are once again receiving fair treatment with theatrical releases, following a period where many of their movies were released directly to streaming platforms during and after the worldwide shutdown.
Pixar’s latest films, such as Soul, Turning Red, Lightyear, and Luca, were released directly on Disney+ rather than having a theatrical run. However, this decision to stream their films “shot [Pixar] in the leg a little bit,”as stated by Docter.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he mentioned that the global shutdown has unintentionally taught people to wait a few months for movies to be released on streaming platforms. They are currently trying to separate this concept for their upcoming projects.
“I believe [Inside Out 2] will not be released on streaming for at least a hundred days, so I hope that will encourage people to see it in theaters instead.”
Therefore, your level of patience will ultimately determine your course of action. If you are in dire need of Inside Out 2, head to the theater. If not, ensure your Disney+ subscription is up to date and wait for its release.
Until then, you have the opportunity to discover for yourself why Inside Out 2 dispels any doubts about Pixar’s capabilities, or to explore the enticing post-credit scenes of the film.
